Quiet Musings...
This site was established in February 2026 and gives me a place for quiet reflection on many things as I enter that reflective part of life which is retirement. Perhaps as I work through these pages there will also be something of interest for you, Gentle Reader? If so please let me know...
- Ajapa Japa: As taught by Swami Satyadharma My recollections and thoughts on the practice of Ajapa Japa meditation as taught to me by Swami Satyadharma. A practice that I have been exploring since that time as a part of my own personal Sadhana.
- Urban Myths & the Iliad My effort to counter some common misconceptions about Homer's Iliad. This page is still one of my favourites while simultaneously being one of the least visited...
- Rough Justice in the HTML Newsgroups Usenet has almost come to an end but in its time I was a huge fan of HTML newsgroups. It was there that I learnt to write syntactically correct CSS and HTML that you see on these pages, a skill that is rare to see these days!
- Swimming in retirement... Looking back over the long years I try to make sense of a life where I have always seemed to swim in some fashion or the other. And look forward to see what part swimming will play in my retirement.
- Nursing: Looking back... My career in nursing came an end in December 2020 and on this page I look back over the last 36 years that I have spent working in a public hospital as a Registered Nurse, with 32 years of that time spent in the strangest of worlds, the world of Intensive Care.
- Running 10km in 2020... Back in the very begining of the Covid lockdowns I started becoming a runner. One of my first big goals was as a 60 year old to break 60 minutes for a 10km run.
- A story... I was trained as a Satyananda Yoga Teacher in the Mangrove Mountain Ashram and like many others I was devastated when I found out the dark past of the Ashram.
- Running a better Marathon in 2025... I had run a road Marathon before but it really was a bit of a shambles with a 10km death march at the end! This page shows the work I put into a much better effort and result for my second Marathon in 2025.
- Reflection... Recently CH reached out to me to say 'hello' and also to ask me two questions. These were questions which encouraged some deep reflection for me on how a young life was lived, what things had been helpful and what things were less helpful.
I update the site when I am able and I have something interesting to add, a combination of events that will be occuring more often soon as I move through retirement! Hopefully you will find something of use here? If not please feel free to utilise this site in any way you see fit...
